47 What's up, dude? Hello, hello. All right. So today we have got a really special episode because this is the inaugural, what we call our Friday Fast Five podcast. So what the hell is this? Well, basically what this is, is Brooke and I are constantly picking things up during the week. And quite frankly, we just want to share with you guys. We want to share things that we're learning. We want to share experiences that we're having. We want to share things that we think would be impactful or interesting or ridiculous or funny for all of you. And we're going to do this every single Friday and And we're going to do it in a format where we keep these episodes under 10 minutes. So they're going to be very, very easy to digest.
29 We're never going to be fully deep diving on a topic. It's going to kind of be a little bit of an invitation in some cases to go explore a little bit further. But we think you're really going to love this. We've done this before. It's gone over really, really well. We're very excited to be integrating it into our podcast schedule. So from here forward, you can expect this every single Friday. Five thoughts, experiences, ahas, ideas, and some randomness that we picked up. during the week. And that, by the way, can be around business, around life, around health, around being a parent, around having hives, whatever it might be. With that said, my man, the clock is ticking, bro.
12 Let's kick us off with number one. All right. So number one for me this week, big learning is a learning built upon another learning. So here's the learning. It's basically the dynamic that we have tons of energy that is literally trapped inside of our bodies. Right. So some of us carry around as fat. Some of us carry around as muscles. Some of us carry around as nutrients that is lying dormant within our system. At the end of the day, we have all this energy and it has to move. It has to do something. And so it's either going to come out of us like a light bulb, which is what happened for me this week. Or if we're really intentional, if we're really clear on where to direct that energy, we have the power to harness it so we can be more of a laser beam. And so the big learning distinction I had wasn't super conscious aware of that energy.
55 And I was coming off more of as a light bulb versus a laser beam. And it was very frantic and it was very frenetic. It was very like, it comes across as more chaos versus certainty and pointing that energy in a direction and being on mission. I love that, dude. General versus focused. I love that. Intention driven. Okay, number two, I recently digested the audiobook version of Steven Pressfield's book called Going Pro. I cannot recommend this book enough. I got tipped off in terms of reading this book from Dan Martell, who has talked quite a bit about that book, actually, over the last year and his experience with it.
36 And I was really curious. It is a very quick listen. It's like... I think it was like two hours and 20 minutes or something like that. But unbelievable in terms of impact and the style of the writing is fantastic. Not to mention, Steven Pressfield is just a really, really fucking smart, witty guy. And I'm going to leave you with this book is like the greatest hits album that wasn't intended to be a greatest hits album in terms of quotes. But I'm going to give you this one. When we're terrified of embracing our true calling, we'll pursue a shadow calling instead. That shadow career is a metaphor for a real career.
18 Its shape is similar. Its contours feel tantalizingly the same. But a shadow career entails no real risk. If we fail at a shadow career, the consequences are meaningless to us. Mm-hmm. I can tell you one thing, I read that and it hit me like a hammer because I did that early on in my life. And I've seen a lot of other people doing that too. Maybe that resonates for you. All right, number three. Number three, beware the closed eye process. So for those of you who don't know what a closed eye process is, it's something we love doing both in a coaching dynamic as well as in a sales process. It's something you can do from front of stage, but it's a real interesting way.
02 You can have somebody close their eyes. You can take them on a journey. You can take them into what your own version of a movie might be. So you can create the scene. You can create the emotion. And you can take people on this roller coaster. And again, you want to do it intentionally with the right motives. But it's a really cool way to create a pressure cooker experience for whoever the end user is. Now, the reason I threw in the beware this week, I forgot how much I talk with my hands. And so when I do a closed eye process with a client, I like to close my eyes so that I'm on the journey with them. And so there I was taking on this closed eye process. And I didn't realize that my wife had just brought in a nice brand new mug full of hot tea. And I punted...
44 I punted the tea all over my desk, all over my lap, all over myself. And so in the middle of closed eye process, we're in this deep emotional space. And there I am wiping everything up, totally derailing. So if you're doing a closed eye process and you'd like to talk with your hands, be very careful. First time I'd ever done that. Oh, my God. I'm crying. Fun getting burned. Oh, my God. I'm crying. You got another good one. Hit us up with number four. Number four, so it's really interesting. So being a dad, our kids nowadays, it's so easy for them to get entertainment at their fingertips, whether it's games, movies. I mean, shoot, technology is just everywhere.
26 And it's so easy for them to be entertained And I don't know about you, man, but like growing up, I came from that generation where it was like, you know, better to be seen, not heard kind of a thing. Oh, yeah. So with our kids, we've worked really, really hard to like engage way more. And we had this distinction with my wife and I had this distinction over the weekend. I'm like, you know what? Let's focus on connecting with our kids deeper this weekend instead of trying to figure out like, what are we going to go do? It was like, how can we connect deeper? And so what we ended up doing is instead of playing video games, which is way easier to get wrapped into the, you know, all the dopamine hits, we busted out all the old board games. Like, you know, literally checkers and, you know, trouble and Yahtzee and like all the old board games.
10 And we spent hours all weekend. Yeah. And our kids were like 10 times more engaged doing that than they would be a video game. So it was really cool for us. And I was just, I was stoked to have a little nostalgia there, but it was also really cool to just like listen to music and talk stories. And yeah, it was cool. I love that. And I'll just say really quickly that I'm glad you mentioned it because I actually have a tendency to avoid those kinds of things. And when I do them and I actually engage, I really have a good time. So I got to stop being so fucking bah humbug about that. Thank you for reminding me. Okay, lastly, I have had my head so far down the marketing rabbit hole lately. One of the things is that I'm constantly paying attention to what all kinds of different companies are doing with their marketing, and I can't help it.
59 And one in particular, my wife actually sent me this this morning, not knowing that I've been paying such close attention to what people are doing with their marketing. About this gluten-free sourdough bread. Now, we eat gluten-free 95% of the time. We love sourdough bread. And shout out to our third partner, Vanessa, who makes a freaking amazing sourdough. She does. I maximized her yesterday. Yeah. Yes. But the ad, the ad that my wife sent me for this gluten-free sourdough bread, and I'm going to give a total shout out here because I really want to honor this company. The name of the company is called, this is very crafty too, by the way. So crafty.
39 Simple Needs with a K, like kneading the bread. Come on. So good. Damn it. Simple Needs Gluten-Free is the name of the company. And this is the headline for the ad image. Gluten-free bread without the gluten-free taste. Mmm. Me, it's so simple and it's so perfect. So one of the things that we talk about that's so powerful in marketing is a limiter where basically we're saying an exclusion where I'm saying, I want this without that. I want gluten-free bread without the gluten-free taste. This was a perfect example. I will drop an image in the show notes for you so that you can see it, but it's brilliant.
20 All right. We are 15 seconds ahead of schedule currently. And we hope you love this episode. They're going to be coming every single Friday from here on out. And one thing we'd love to hear from you is what did you pick up in your journey this week? Until next time, Ryan and Brooks signing off. See you on the next episode. Hasta.
