42 I'm your host, Ryan Lang, CEO and co-founder of Empire Partners, alongside my co-founder and co-host, Brooke Bishop. All right, my man, ready for another Fast Five? Let's do it. Let's make it happen. All right, kick us off. All right, so first one, yeah, just had to do with passions. So this last week, I've had a passion project that's been sitting kind of on the sidelines. And I had that moment, woke up super early, you know, me and my – 3am wake up call, but I was like, Oh, I felt totally compelled. Just felt passionate about it. Felt excited about it. I'm like, you know what? I'm going to go digging on it today. And so I've been just cranking away on it and kind of letting a little bit of the cat out of the bag. So I've got this book project that's been sitting on the shelf and, And yeah, this week, I mean, I made so much freaking headway with it and just, yeah, got lost.

29 Time seemed to disappear and it's coming together pretty cool. So just one of those reminders of like, if you're passionate about it, go all in. And when you feel called or inspired to get that intuitive hit, dig deep. I love that. And I actually I had a similar experience this weekend, just, you know, spending a lot of time building out, you know, some really key thought leadership pieces that that, you know, that I haven't had the space and time to really stick my head into. And it. man, it feels good when you do it. I think the other thing that I'll just mention is that I love that you did that. I love that you did it, you know, in a spot where you actually had the time and space.

12 It's so hard where it's like you try to schedule it up and it's like, oh, I'm going to do 30 minutes here and then I'm going to try to do a little more over there. Man, these kinds of things when it's coming from the heart, when it's something you really want to feel through, think through, be all into, it's so much easier to do when you have big slots of time to make it happen. There was definitely a moment where I was like, oh, because I have this window of time. Like, I'm like, I got to get it all done. And I'm like, wait a minute. This is my passion project. I don't want this to be rushed and just get to the finish line. I'm like, pump the brakes and it's okay. We can take our time and do it right. Absolutely right. All right. Number two, this has been really interesting. I've I've a lot of the information that I've fed myself over the last, I'd say about like week or 10 days.

00 I've been reading a little bit about the science behind altruism and like what what happens when we really become. And it's really interesting. Some of the things that I'll just kind of spout off because it's been fascinating. Adam Grant did some work around this in a book that – he wrote in 2013. Uh, and I, I never, uh, I'd never really kind of heard the findings that he, that he presented in this book. Uh, but he talked about how when he looked at it from an organizational standpoint, he noticed that, um, like when he looked at, uh, salespeople as an example, the people inside of organizations that were the biggest givers as salespeople, um, were not the top in terms of numbers.

56 However, he was fascinated by this. So he digs deeper, and the deeper he digs, the more that he finds that organizationally, the overall results of departments and outcomes where these people were working were like blew away. Yeah. those environments where there were no givers. So it was fascinating because if you fell, he kind of put people into three different categories where there were, um, uh, there were givers, there were takers. And then, um, God, the one in the middle right now is escaping me. Um, but essentially it's basically like, I'm going to give with, with an expectation of at least something in return.

38 Um, um, And what they found is that the people that were purely altruistic and just giving with absolutely no expectation of anything in return, regardless of department, organizationally, their teams far exceeded the outcomes of the teams around them. Additionally, I found when I was reading that – and I mean when you think about this, it makes sense, but – You know, we get a release of dopamine, serotonin, all these really awesome neurotransmitters that are all associated with the pleasure center in the brain, just like when we eat something amazing or we have amazing sex with somebody that we really love or whatever.

22 Same thing is happening when we're giving. And the last one I really loved, and when I thought about it, I was like, man, I believe this wholeheartedly because this is what I see from people in my life. 42% people that give with no expectation of anything in return, 42% more likely to be happy. Love that. So yeah, it was really, really fascinating. Co-workers receive. There you go. Hey, you know, whatever you said, but I heard I did. Yeah. Anyway, really interesting stuff. No, I think that that's a huge piece. And I know we've done a lot of training around altruistic as it relates to personality profiles too. Just how that shows up and how people play.

03 And, um, I love the stat though. I think that's, that is massive and it totally makes sense. So great, great pull brother. I like that. Really fascinating. All right. What's number three? So number three, I actually received this little handy dandy guide in the mail about two weeks ago. So it's called the for anyone who's listening versus watching. It's called the four 90 formula. So one of the coaches who's in our orbit, his name is Brian Cooper. He just published his book and it's dude, it's wild. I actually need to get you a copy of this one. It's all the science behind manifestation and it's all the math and what's required as it relates to what our words do and how it creates beliefs and how those beliefs create actions and how that turns into reality.

46 Super cool book. But one of the chapter three, there's a sentiment that just rang true. So it says we are, we are born to win, but we are programmed to fail. And so this just hit home heavy, just going, you know what? Everything we need is within us. We're given everything that we need in order to crush life, to kick ass, to take names. But the conditioning, the programming, so it's kind of like the software versus the hardware, right? Like our hardware is set up to win, but our software is actually programmed for us to fail. And so we have this dichotomy that just keeps going back and forth. And the thing I loved about the book, it's all these pieces of what do we need to do in order to condition new programming?

31 And so I just thought it was just cool. Just knowing we've got our event that's coming up and just knowing that that's what we're helping our people do. And, you know, I won't let some of the cat out of the bag. But yeah, just just made me feel really good knowing that the work we're doing is helping people condition the right programming to get them into alignment so that they can create. So. I love that. And I love that. I love the line too. We're born to win, but programmed to fail. I couldn't agree more. And there is going to be so much of that actually at our upcoming event. All right. Number four, this was a quote. I've seen this many times before, but it came across my desk this week. It is not a new one, but it does not matter how slowly you go as long as you do not stop.

17 Confucius, another one of those guys who might have known a thing or two. This one in particular, man, I mean, we've talked so much about this over the last couple of years. That is the game of business. You know, it's it is it isn't about arriving at an outcome. It's literally just the celebration is continuing to stay in the game, you know, because so many people can't or won't or don't. And it's so much less about speed and velocity than it is about just an unwavering commitment to stay in the game.

03 even if it's one small step at a time, day in, day out. It ain't sexy, but it 100% is true. Well, dude, I like just the sentiment of the altruism as it relates to the Confucius's quote. Confucius's? Confucius's. I think that's what- Confucius's. Confucius's says. But no, there's this element of why we got into this coaching game to begin with. And I think that the people who get into the game because they want to make a quick buck, they struggle. The ones who get in because they want to get out of a bad work environment, they struggle. The ones who get in because they really want to transform humanity and they're committed to the long game and they're willing to do whatever it takes.

44 I truly believe that that's the missing magic of what allows people to kick ass. I couldn't agree more. Well said, my man. Well said. All right. Well, wrapping us up today, number five. Man, it's just like – This episode is going to release on day one of our upcoming event in beautiful Reunion, Florida, just south of Orlando. And man, I have been thinking about, I don't know about you, but I am just so... This is, I think, the fifth one that we've done together now. And... We've done five events already? Isn't that wild?

24 That's crazy. It's wild to think about. But gosh, I'm just so humbled and grateful and excited. The amount of energy and excitement that went into this. I mean, we sold the thing out and we were... There were still people that were asking to get in. And it's... It's so interesting to me because, you know, every single event that we've done, we've learned something. We've gotten a little bit better. We've recognized where we could improve. We've seen the things that we already do well and we've doubled down on those. And this is going to be really an exciting event because for us, it's going to be our first time doing an event.

07 completely away away from home, quote unquote, right? We've we've done all of our events here in our home state of Colorado at an amazing venue. And it's been wonderful. But this year was time for an upgrade and time for a new experience for us, for our clients. And man, I'm I'm just I am beyond excited. I'm grateful for the incredible team that we have and all the people that we're going to be bringing with us in this event. that are going to be participating and speaking and and lending a hand behind the scenes. I'm grateful for all of the clients that are going to be there. I'm grateful for all of the people that are not currently clients are going to be experiencing this for the very first time. And, you know, the one thing that I would just say about this is that I for anybody that's listening to this right now, this is one of these things that's been really important to me, very, very near and dear to my heart.

58 I love being in person with people and Brooke knows this. Like if you ever give me a choice, I will fucking fly to you rather than do a zoom. I would much rather it be that way. And, um, I'm just so excited that this, you know, we get to, you know, here we are together for yet another, you know, big jump and big leap forward, um, in, you know, uh, in, in our group and with our company, with our clients. It's really, it's really awesome. Well said, man. Now, this is going to be an epic event. I'm stoked for the distinctions that come out of it because I have a feeling we'll have one of our next episodes. We'll probably be speaking about all the learnings and the things that we pull from this one. So it's going to be great. Yeah, it sure will be.

38 And for those of you right now that are like, damn. How did I miss this? I want to get in on the next one. You can because there's a wait list, you guys. And in fact, it's already pretty full. But if you will throw this into the show notes, if you want to get on the wait list for our next event, it's going to be June 5th through the 7th. in beautiful Vail, Colorado. We're going to be in the mountains. It's amazing. If you've never been to Vail, you're in for a treat. And if you've never been to Vail in the summertime, you're really in for a treat.
