0:01 Welcome back to the Coaching Equation Podcast. I'm your host, Ryan Lang, CEO and co-founder of Empire Partners, alongside my co-founder and co-host, Brooke Bishop. Dude, another fast five for Friday. You ready to do it? Let's do this dance. Go time. All right, kick us off. Number one. Number one. So I don't know if you can see, but I got, I got some new fancy schmancy. Sexy headphones. Very sexy. So, uh, so here's a cool piece. So my first one, I got new headphones. I, I don't know if it was last week or the week before, I think it was week before, uh, 24 Robbins came knocking at my door. Uh, I, at the end of our podcast recording my headphones, I was like, why am I using these damn cheap, crappy headphones?

0:43 Like, A, they didn't look very sexy. So that, that was not appealing. But what I didn't like, no one would know this, but it was like always crackling in my ears. And the only time I use the headphones is when we record. But at the end of the day, I'm like, I just take off the headphones and I would literally just throw them on the ground. Cause I just, I hated them. So get off. go away headphones. But after, yeah, two weeks ago we recorded and then I'm like, why am I settling for these dang headphones? I'm like, screw this. So I went and did a little bit of research and I found these headphones and they're super schmancy. And like, they actually, you can hear the outside sounds as well as the inside sounds. And I don't know, just it, I wanted to level it up. And then it just triggered that thought in my head.

1:24 I'm like, what else am I settling for? What else am I tolerating? Yeah. And if I'm doing it with headphones and it just, it started to open up Pandora's box of all sorts of things in my life where I'm like, nope, we're not tolerating that shit anymore. And so, yeah, we're on the fast track to leveling up life. I love that, dude. And thank you because I don't have to look at you with those other shitty trash headphones anymore. Makes my experience that much better. Thank you for letting me out. Why did you guys stop hanging out? Because you had cheap headphones. Yeah, it was fucking cheap headphones, man. What's number two? Number two.

2:04 I had a chance to listen to Gary Vee chatting with Chris Williamson recently. And in this episode, you know, Gary Vee is always good for a couple of really good zingers. Like, it's hard for me to listen to any more than, you know, I can get five minutes of him and I feel like there's always something in there that hits me. And... So he was kind of talking in the context of the content game. And like, there are a lot of people in today's arena that believe they're A players in the content game. And they're really like C plus players. And he said, you know, the primary reason I believe is that they are making content selfishly instead of selflessly.

2:55 And I love that because it's like an agenda versus truly giving. And he also went on to add to that to basically say like, look, you know, What's if you're not asking yourself what's in it for them and and thinking to yourself, well, if what's in it for them, is it good enough for me to to pay attention to or not? If the answer is no, don't put it out there. Um, and I think that's, I think it gets so lost cause we kind of get into this, this volume game with content and it's not that you can't, there are lots of people, uh, and God bless them that put out incredible amounts of really good quality content.

3:41 It's not that it's impossible, but I also think that there's a lot, it gets very easy to just put out a lot of bullshit for the sake of, of putting it out there. Um, and I also think that it gets very easy to make it only self-serving. We've known several people over the years that it seems like every piece of content is just self-serving. They want something from somebody that's the impetus behind it. And when you shift that, I think it, I think there's a major difference. I really loved his point on that. But in all fairness, they do have different subject lines for each of their podcast episodes. Yeah. Truth. Truth. That is true. That is true. Before you go into number three, I want to highlight this because I want to tee this up just a hair.

4:23 Mm-hmm. So a couple of days ago, Ryan goes, Hey, I got up real early this morning. Now, for those of you that don't know, Ryan and I already get up really early compared to the mass majority of humanity. So Ryan, I think you normally get up at what, like four 30 or something like that. Four o'clock to four 30. Yep. Four o'clock, four 30. So when Ryan tells me, Hey Brooke, I woke up early this morning in my head, I'm like, What time was that? So bring us into number three, because I know that that was a triggering, triggering moment as it relates to this. It was. Yeah. And for the record, it was 2.30. It's freaking early. Yeah, 2.30. For some people, that's late. I woke up really.

5:04 Yeah, that's exactly right. I'm waking up when some people are going to bed. Yeah, I woke up at 2.30 the other day. Number three is quiz funnels. This is not a new thing, but it's something that I've always loved and I've been really diving heavily into recently. And one of the reasons why is that I've been kind of on a mission to spend more time from a marketing perspective, doing things that feel interactive and also doing things that truly give something to somebody. And, you know, it's one of the things that I love about quiz funnels is that, you know, number one, you have an opportunity to give something to somebody just like you do with a lead magnet.

5:47 But secondly, it's their results. So it's personalized, which is a beautiful thing. And it adds to the element of self-discovery. Um, and all of this, honestly, it's funny, you know, when this airs, I don't know if it'll be out yet or not, but, um, did a great podcast episode with the chief revenue officer for an app called score app. And that's really, I've been thinking about it, but that's what really got my brain churning is that conversation. And we love the Apple link up score or score app in the, in the show notes. But, uh, yeah, quiz funnels. Uh, absolutely love them. Can't wait to make a shit ton of them. Uh, my head's all in there right now. Love that. I was wondering what that integration.

6:28 I'm like seeing the stuff pop in Slack. I'm like, what the hell is that? What is it? Now I know. It's Ryan playing with quiz funnels. Yeah. All right. Bring us in a number four, buddy. So I think you're number four, but I will bring us in. Not outcomes for success, but pursuit. You're right. I just, I stole your thunder. See, rewind. You bring us number four. You do it. No, you go. You go first. You hang up first, Ryan. I'm not going to. Yeah. Yeah. Out comes for success, but not pursuit. And what I mean by that is this, we get so caught up. We get so caught up day in and day out around the big achievements.

7:09 And I think success, what we deem success to be, we wrap up in big achievements. I even think, and this is dangerous, we wrap up our value as human beings in the big achievements or lack thereof. Um, and the truth is one of the, one of the most important lessons that I've learned around life that, that, you know, God hits me in the head with, uh, uh, over and over and over and over again. is that success and our value as human beings is not in the big achievements and the big outcomes. It's in the valiant pursuit of becoming the best version of ourselves. And those outcomes and those big achievements are just a byproduct of the real thing that shows us success and value as a human being and that kind of thing.

8:00 I absolutely love that. And I think it's so true. I mean, it's the... anybody who's out there that's a coach, you know, oftentimes we can get caught up in the, did you get the result? Did you get the destination? And we can sometimes let go of, or we can lose, you know, focus of who did you become in the process? And there's, there's so much value in that, that transcends the coaching relationship. So I absolutely love that brother. It's a good one. Very true. All right. Well, I thought you were going to do the last one, but since you're not, can you fucking show up and just do something here and do number Ooh, ooh, put me in, coach. Put me in. Yeah, go ahead. You're not going in. You're out. You're out. Okay. So yeah, number five for today, for this week, is watering the seeds as it relates to your business.

8:47 You know, back in the day, we got to work with a gentleman named Chet Holmes, who did, he wrote, what was the book called? I think it was The Sales Machine, something like that. And there's something he talked about in there about having, you know, I don't know if it'd be politically correct these days, but it was basically having your list of your fat 50. And it's if you got any one of these 50 clients to come into your business, you would immediately bloat to the point that you would have to grow and scale and it could change the game for you and your business. And so, you know, in our business for the last, what, two, three, we've been cultivating some very, very specific relationships and we can't talk about all the details yet.

9:29 But in doing that, it could have been very easy to go, you know, I've reached out to these people 10 times and I didn't have any response and they're not going to work with me and I'm not going to work with them and screw them. But we didn't play that way. And it just goes to show because this last week, we're now at this final precipice of having the biggest client that we could ever conceive of bringing into our orbit. And it's going to change the game and it's going to force us to level up. Right. So I just think it goes to show for anyone who's out there. I know we saw somebody in one of the systems and things that we've been testing. They're like, I've been doing this thing for three weeks.

10:10 I haven't gotten the results I want. I'm throwing in the towel. Yeah. Yeah. And we're like, seriously? Three whole weeks? Yeah. Like, wait, if we were farmers and we were out there stomping on the ground, yelling at the seeds for not bearing fruit after three weeks, our neighbor farmers would think we're crazy, right? But in business, a lot of times we can throw in the towel too quick. So, yeah. I couldn't agree more. And I'll just say on that front, you know, like, don't yell at your seeds, please. That's what people do. People plant their fucking seeds and then they get down on their hands and knees and they yell at the seeds to grow. Grow. Go, grow. What is wrong with you? Just water them and keep watering them and keep watering them with an expectation that you don't know if they're going to grow or they're not.

10:56 Magical things will happen. So we are out of time, buddy. But thank you. This was a good one. Thank you for listening to this episode of the Coaching Equation podcast. And we'll see you on the flip side. Take care. If you guys want more brilliance, we'll be here next week.
