42 I'm your host, Ryan Lang, CEO and co-founder of Empire Partners, alongside my co-founder and co-host, Brooke Bishop. Dude, you ready for this fast five? Let's do it. Let's make it happen. All right. Number one, this was a question that I saw somebody ask. Actually, somebody that is one of our clients asked this question on LinkedIn. And it got me going. What would I do or how would I act if I completely trusted myself? Yeah, and when I read that, I was like, oh, shit. I immediately had to think internally, wow, where do I not fully trust myself?
29 Where am I kind of holding back because maybe I don't fully trust? And it was really interesting because... I was kind of reflecting on that question somewhat in conjunction with the last full episode that we just completed here on the Coaching Equation podcast, where we talked about like situations where you make mistakes or you swing and you miss. And then all of a sudden you decide not to trust yourself. The interesting thing with trusting yourself is. is that it really is one of those subconscious things that builds up in the back of your mind. You know, we do one thing that we don't get right and we decide it's our fault and we decide we can't trust ourselves. We date that one person who's a total shithead and we decide that we have terrible judgment and we don't trust ourselves.
18 And then all of a sudden it starts stacking up and stacking up and stacking up in the background and we can't even see it day to day. So that's I just wanted to bring that question in here and I would encourage you to reflect on it because I certainly have been and I've found a few really interesting things. I love that. And I also want to unpack it because I'm like, ooh, it's like the things that run through my head on the surface. I'm like, this isn't that's like a that's a sit with it for the whole weekend kind of a question that can prop up some really interesting answers. It really is, man. It really is. All right. Get us into number two. Number two. So number two. So for anyone who doesn't know that we're we currently have a we're currently doing a big project right now for Tony Robbins.
04 And Tony has a time management training. He's been teaching time management for decades, but he's really put together a whole new three day event and a piece of software. And he's woven in AI. He's got all these really cool pieces that go into it. And so for our team, since we're helping them with their marketing and their sales and all the systems of it, we just went through a huge piece of his event. And it's just really like peeling back the curtain on like, how much are we really managing our time? And are we really living a life by design? And are we really living with intention? And do we have a process in play for life management? Because I feel like so many of us get caught in that process of, you know, so many to-dos and a giant to-do list.
48 And that becomes our experience. So it was just this last week, it was just really eye-opening for me going through it like, wow, there's a whole nother level. I want to like really kick it up to a whole new notch, but really thinking of it as life management versus time management. Oh, man, I feel exactly the same. And you know what? One of the things that I feel so one of the things I feel so fortunate about is is, you know, the people that we work with constantly, I find, inspire additional thought and introspection and examination of our processes at processes and like. you know, how good we are at one thing or another, or am I really viewing this through a lens that serves me?
34 And I mean, Tony would sit at the pinnacle of that statement. And it really has been an unbelievably worthwhile exercise to examine it. And I'm just, we're like just scratching the surface right now. So it's going to be exciting to dive deeper on that one. This was a quote that I picked up this week. I'd never seen this before, and I freaking love it. This is from Robin Sharma. The real trick in life is to turn hindsight into foresight that reveals insight. Damn it, that's good. I mean, it's so good.
17 So take what happened. learn from it, be able to look forward, and then turn that to look inward, right? So we're really creating that symbiotic connection between happened, you know, what's going to happen in the future and right now. Man, I just absolutely love that quote. And yet again, another one I find interesting. you know, where focus goes, energy flows, right? So we did this big episode that just dropped and, you know, on challenges and things of that nature. And this was another one looking at it where it's like, hey, how do we really want to view this?
00 We just had this experience or we had something bad happen in the past. Let's look at it. Let's see what we want to learn from it. Let's see how we can use that moving on down the road. And then let's be present in the moment. I just I love it, dude. It's one of those interesting pieces, too, especially for us as coaches, the more we can learn from our own experiences. I mean, we can also take that into learning from our clients' experiences, seeing how it applies. But then also, I love the insight piece because that's really where we get to transmute that and to share and help others, which is super powerful. Love that, man. Yeah, it sure is. That's dope. All right, number four. Number four, so it's been coming up and a lot of the clients we've been working with lately.
43 And one of the things we've caught, the words are not very sexy, but we call it process documentation. And as the words come out of my mouth, I know Vanessa would be like, I think it's a sexy thing that you just said. Vanessa, that's like that. That is like. OK, you know what? Yeah, it's very sexy to Vanessa. I'm just going to stop there. I'm stopping right there. Don't go further. I know I opened the door. Don't kick it down. What were we just talking about? Process documentation. One of our superpowers is being able to take your entire business and lay it out and document every single step in the process. And what happens is so I don't know if we've actually met.
25 I don't know if we've had anybody come into our orbit that actually has their whole process laid out. No, not one person, not one person or company. That's true. Not one person or company. I would agree with that sentiment. The magic of this, and this is one of our superpowers of literally getting in and documenting every single step. Why do we do that? We do that because we want to look at what is your actual business? Because as soon as you get it, you get it naked on the screen. This is now getting even more weird. This is going to be one of the, we're going to get flagged for this episode. But when you get your HR... When you get your business naked on the screen and you can see every step in the process, you can make a lot of decisions. You can see where things are good, where things are bad, where things break.
07 And it gives you a way to look at how can I take my whole business to the next level? Well, this is how you just take each step in the process and you just make it better. And what we've seen lately, we have a lot of people who have what they think is a really tightened up business. They get it on the screen and they're like, uh-oh. we've got problems, but we also have a lot of opportunities. So it's just another great, great process to dig into as it relates to your business. It doesn't matter what your business is, by the way. But yeah, it's one of those pieces. We love to do this when we have our events and our workshops and the pieces we get under the hood and we start mapping it out. I so agree. And, and I'll be honest. I never thought I would love it as much as I, as much as I do as well.
48 Certainly I, I couldn't love it as much as Vanessa does or you even for that matter. But, but I do love, you know, what it is, is it, it really tells you where the bodies are buried. And most people have no idea. And it's one of the reasons that they struggle in their businesses. They can't see those things. They're blind. So anyway, we got to keep an eye on top. Bring us home. Keep it on track. Keep it on track. Number five, uh, Two words that I found in a conversation that I watched on YouTube with Gary Vee and Cody Sanchez. And it was less the context of the way that the words were used and the words themselves that were so powerful to me. And the words are uncomfortably practical.
32 And, you know, I took those words and they literally of all the things that those two would say in 37 minutes of talking, that is what jumped out at me. Like, I mean, immediately and where it immediately had my head was, you know what? We are constantly chasing exciting shit in business. All the time. We want the exciting thing. We want the sexy thing. Going back to the last episode, we want the fucking magic bullet thing. We want the fast track. I want the narrow. Give me the narrow. Guess what? Success is uncomfortably practical. It's kind of like, you know, well, how do I get from point A to point B?
18 Well, you're going to walk. Uh, wait a minute, but I, but what if I could, you know, I want to go get some really super cool shoes and I want to run. Nope. You're going to walk. You're going to put one foot in front of the other. And by the way, if you just do it that way and you keep doing it that way, I give you a 100% guarantee that you'll get there. Most people literally are like, nope. And it's because there's something about, we should do a whole episode on this, but there's something about, like, anytime that we sense familiarity and we believe that we already know something... or we believe that something it's perceived to be easy or known to us, we tend to have an aversion to that.
05 We tend to choose the thing that's exciting, that's new, that we think is going to get us there faster. And the truth is, at the end of the day, being uncomfortably practical will get you a long way in life and a really long way in business. With my friends, we are out of time.
